Expanding Your Own Network

Expanding Your Own Network

Only a few people understand how important networking is but if you want to be great in business and life in general, this is something you have to do. Networking is so much more than making friends and meeting new people. It so much more than introducing yourself to others. When you network, the more people you know, the larger your world becomes and the more opportunities you get.

Choosing the people to network with

When you begin your bout at networking you have to realize how important it is to meet the right people, and this is determined through the following:

·         A person’s character is a good basis for wanting to form a connection. If a person is built with integrity, commitment and pride, then you know that this person is not all talk. He is genuine when he interacts with people and knows how to deal with all kinds of personalities, coming from the different levels of society.

·         It is also worth it to connect with people who are good at formulating strategies. Strategies are not only used in games, because life is one big game and sometimes you can win and sometimes you can lose. To be able to be on the winning end, you will need people who are good with formulating plans; not just ordinary plans, but those that bring results.

·         A person with solid influence is also admirable and worth connecting with. This type of person is strong and they are in the position of power that allows them to control and manipulate situations, not for their own gain, but for the common good of all. They inspire and they motivate; they open the eyes of people and teach them to want more for themselves.

These things do not only apply to the people you meet, but also to your own self. If you want people to want to make a connection with you, you have to build a positive image of yourself.

Developing your networking skills

If you are not good at connecting with people, then you can try to improve your ability by:

·         Joining forums. A forum is a place online where people who usually have the same interests are encouraged to convene and communicate with each other. Since it is online, it is not so threatening, so it is a good way to start meeting people this way. It is not as frightening as having to meet someone in person, but it is an effective way to meet all kinds of personalities. You can begin small, by joining forum, starting merely as a spectator until you will more comfortable to speak for yourself and speak to the other people in the room.

·         Going to class. It does not matter what class you attend, but as long as you get out of the house and out of your way to be with other people whom you do not know, then it is a good thing. Open up to your classmates and talk to your teachers. Do not be afraid to introduce yourself to others because you might have a lot to offer to them and vice versa.
