Self-affirmations are words that you impart to yourself, in an attempt to alter your mood, attitude and overall outlook in life. This is effective based on the idea that the mind is powerful enough to control everything, so when you are incapable of doing certain things, you can try to trick yourself into believing otherwise, by utilizing the perfect combination of words.

Words are very powerful. When used properly, you can empower your words so that it can move mountains and change outcomes. ·        Relying on repetition, constancy and earnestness in an attempt to make things happen. An example would be when you are trying to diet and you cannot stay away from food, as an affirmation technique you tell yourself to: “stop eating”, “stay away from unhealthy food”, over and over again. This will actually only enhance your eating habits because the mind is sometimes programmed to do more of the things that you are not supposed to do.

·        Using negative words. You have to understand that the subconscious mind has a way of rejecting the negative things that is being fed to it.

Affirmations that work are those that lean more on the positive and are goal oriented. To make it easier on your part, here are some tips that you can use:

·        Rely on facts and not on your emotions: If you want to lose weight, your self-affirmation should be more exacting, than anything. Say things like: “I should lose 30 pounds” or “I will lose weight in 1 month”. You say things like it is possible and you claim it like it is a fact and it can happen. Do not write affirmations that rely too much on emotions like: “I will not be laughed at because of my weight!” because it does not focus on the problem by providing a solution. It gives you a reason to wallow in sadness.

·        Write them for the present. The more attainable the goal, the more possible it is to happen. Speak affirmations that are valid for the present because it is more realistic and your mind will recognize it as a dire need.

Self-affirmation is more than just tricking yourself into believing something that is not true. Speak the truth but do not be afraid to stretch it because everything has to start at something, and your success story will start here.
