The
Mighty Power of Self Discipline
When
you were young, you had parents and elders to look after you and tell you when
you were going over the edge and are about to hurt yourself and other people.
The elders in your life when you were younger, however, will no longer be with
you when you come of age. Your parents will not always be there to tell you to
be careful. Your teachers will not be there to remind you to work on your task.
You will have to learn to keep yourself disciplined, so that you can manage
yourself and your life.
The
Benefits of Self-Discipline
When
you were young, the elders around you made sure to discipline you because they
wanted your life to follow a specific course and direction. By keeping yourself
disciplined, you are able to direct yourself to your desired destination,
amidst all the hardships and obstacles.
·
It gives you the power
to carry out the decisions you have made in life, even if the current
conditions deems it impossible. In other words, it teaches you to be preserving.
It teaches you not to give up even if all you are getting are failures and
setbacks.
·
It empowers you to act,
to be able to achieve the results you are expecting to have.
·
It helps you overcome
practices that keep you away from progress such as addiction, laziness and
procrastination.
·
It makes you strong
enough to avoid and resist temptations that may hamper your way to the top. It
keeps you firmly on the ground and keeps you where you are supposed to be, and
what you are supposed to do.
·
It will help you control
your actions and keep you from acting based on impulses.
Developing
Your Ability to Discipline Yourself
Self-discipline
is very powerful. If you are fortunate enough to have a little of it going in
your life, you can surely work harder to be able to develop it. First of all
you can by taking responsibility for your own life. You no longer have your
parents and teachers to look after you, so you have to take the responsibility
and learn to look after yourself. You can do this by first determining your
goals and writing out a specific plan to make it happen. Your plans do not have
to be grand. In fact, you can start really small, and reward yourself for every
achievement you make.
Making
Things Happen
Can
one really strive to keep himself disciplined? By following these techniques,
you can work on it:
·
Keep your focus.
Despite all the other things going on in your life, you have to learn to keep
your head in the game and focus on what is most important and that is,
attaining your goals.
·
Keep away from
distractions. Do not waste the time you have. Identify practices that only
succeed to waste your time, and take them out of your life
.
·
Write a to-do list. To
keep focused and so that you will not lose your way, you have to write a to-do
list that will keep you right on track and help keep you from wasting the
little time that you have.
·
Write a success map.
This will help track your progress so that you can feel good about what you
have accomplished and do something about the things that you have not done good
in.
